Xeomin joins Botox and Dysport as one of the three most commonly used injections to treat mild to moderate facial wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause those pronounced lines.
Xeomin is another FDA approved injectable form of botulinum that is administered into the facial muscles to temporarily reduce wrinkles and improve mild to moderate frown lines. It is primarily injected between the eyebrows (glabellar space) and is comparable to Dysport and Botox. Xeomin contains none of the proteins found in both Dysport and Botox, making it a “pure” version of the botulinum toxin. This means patients are less likely to develop antibodies to the product that would reduce effectiveness and reduce the risk of an allergic reaction.
The initial response to Xeomin is similar to Botox and is usually seen within 3-5 days though it may take around two weeks or more to see the maximal effect. Xeomin may last 3-6 months depending on patient and treatment area.
Like the others, Botox and Dysport, Xeomin is a simple non-surgical procedure that usually takes about 10-20 minutes in office. There is typically no necessary downtime and you should be able to return to your normal daily routine immediately after your treatment.
If you are an adult with mild to moderate glabellar lines, Xeomin may be right for you. If you are looking to enhance your overall appearance by reducing fine lines and wrinkles, please contact our office today to meet with Dr. McInnes and discover which treatment or treatments are right for you.
